Match the printer and part number
Use the exact printer model and the reference on your existing ribbon or printer documentation. The brand name alone is not enough: different generations and configurations can use different consumables.
Colour, black and overlay panels
YMCKO ribbons combine yellow, magenta and cyan colour panels with black and a clear overlay. They are used for colour photographs and logos alongside black text. Monochrome ribbons print in one colour. Other panel combinations serve different printing jobs, so check the format on the listing.
Print yield and double-sided cards
Compare the stated yield for the ribbon and print format you need. Printing a full colour sequence on both faces uses more ribbon per finished card than printing one face. Some ribbons have a separate black panel for the reverse; check the stated sidedness and yield rather than assuming all double-sided jobs use the same amount.
Retransfer printers
A retransfer printer uses transfer film as well as a compatible ribbon. Check both consumables for your model when ordering replacements.
