Many important head office buildings are based in city centres or other built up areas. Parking in a lot of these places is severely restricted. This often leads to vehicles being parked without authorisation. What can be done? This growing problem has been tackled by the use of Parking Permits. This simple but cost effective solution has benefitted schools, NHS Sites, colleges, universities, Industrial businesses, Local Government HQ etc. Literally anywhere where parking is an issue. The aim of these permits is to ensure parking regulations are adhered to and help with the safety of the car parks.
There are several types of car passes - Scratch Off Permits / Hanging Permits & Self Cling Permits. Let's look at the advantages and features of each one.
SCRATCH OFF PERMITS
These are designed according to your individual requirements. The permits will have "scratch off" panels that the user will use to indicate the time / day / month / year that they have arrived on the car park. These will then be displayed clearly either on the dashboard, from the rear view mirror or placed in the driver's window. The benefit of the scratch off permits is that the person displaying the permit can only use it once. If too many panels are scratched off then the permit becomes invalid. These permits are relatively low cost but can be sold individually to generate revenue. Eg one permit may cost 6p each but can be sold for £1.00 each or more!
PLASTIC HANGING PERMITS
Again, these are designed according to your individual requirements. These hang from the rear view mirror using a simple hook mechanism. The main advantage of the hanging permits is that they are clearly visible but can be removed by un-hooking it from the rear view mirror and kept safely in the glove compartment. This is ideal for regular car park users who don't want a permanent permit displayed in their vehicle. For extra security these permits can also be numbered so that they can be tracked. Many companies have a space on the pass for the user to add a vehicle registration number to ensure that the permits are not passed around.
SELF CLING PERMITS
These permits work in a very similar way to the plastic hanging car passes. The difference is that these passes are designed to be a permanent feature in the vehicle windscreen. The advantage of these self-cling permits is the material. The vinyl will "cling" to the windscreen like a tax disc holder. It will stay there as long as you need it to but can easily be removed without leaving any sticky residue like a self-adhesive permit would. An additional feature is that they can be numbered to track the usage. Many companies have a space on the pass for the user to add a vehicle registration number to ensure that the permits are not passed around.
DISABLED PARKING PERMITS
The Scratch Off / Plastic Hanging & Self Cling permits can all be modified or adapted to cater for any disabled parking spaces needed. For example a scratch off permit may be issued free of charge for any disabled drivers. This could be displayed without the obvious attention that it is being used by a disabled driver. Alternatively, a hanging permit may be issued to clearly show that a disabled driver is authorised to park in a particular spot. This can be used by the driver and simply handed back at the end of a visit. Maybe a self-cling car pass would be best for regular disabled visitors so that it can be left on display in the windscreen. This could be clearly marked or colour coded as a disabled permit.
With more and more vehicles on the road today, parking spaces are at a premium. Many will take advantage of any free parking spaces especially if located near to town or a shopping area. This often leads to vehicles being parked without authorisation. As discussed this growing problem has been tackled by the use of Parking Permits. In various forms from Scratch Off / Hanging or Self Cling, the parking permit has become a feature of everyday life. These simple yet cost effective permits are an ideal solution to a very common issue.
